Charity Quilt, Quilts and my Babies

This little quilt is for a fundraiser for the Franklin House Gardeners Committee - Denise made it using some sumptuous Japanese fabrics and I quilted it for her (my little contribution to the care of this lovely old home in Tasmania) using a lovely pattern called "Lotus" in keeping with the asian theme.   It came up a treat.

The back looks good - I just loved the fabric she used for the backing... I could do with some of that.

A lovely quilt by Sharon ... I just loved the combination of those colours and fabrics - scrumptious!

And last but not least .... Jet and Merlin - getting up to mischief I'm sure - no no we're not doing anything - certainly not smacking each other - aren't they too cute!

Last night I took the final lot of Vic Bush Fire Quilts back to Unique Stitchers ... I am just amazed at how giving quilters can be. And it is such a good cause if you have been reading Christina's blog ...http://ozcomfortquilts.blogspot.com/

And I am missing the beach today - I would dearly love to go out to the beach for a few days ...but alas ... work beckons!

Tasmanian Quilt Guild Raffle Quilt

Earlier this year I custom quilted this lovely quilt for the Tasmanian Quilting Guild 2009 Island Quilts Raffle. It was made by the lovely girls up in Smithton (Tas) and quilted by me.

The Raffle Tickets are available for purchase now ... the quilt is quite big - Queen Sized - so a $2.00 will be very well spent for the person who wins it!

It's been a busy week or so

Over the past little while I have been quilting more quilts for those affected in the Victoria fires - here are some pictures.

This is the backing of the blue and white quilt - I have had this fabric for quite awhile and absolutely love it - reminds me of Aboriginal paintings.

Last Saturday I had a small exhibition at the Exeter Show - local show - had a great day and a lot of people asked questions and stopped for a chat which was lovely. My Journal covers were a great hit with a lot of people expressing interest in doing a class with me - have dates booked now and just need to get the numbers.

This is a nice stack of my quilts ... can't believe I have so many. But they are for sale if anyone is interested.

My fur babies are now 5 months old and have grown quite a lot ... still full of naughtiness though!

This following weekend I am lucky to be attending a workshop with doll guru Pattie Medaris Culea from the USA. Her dolls are devine and I hope to learn some new tricks, especially dying silk. I have made up a doll in silk for the class and we will be dying the doll, rather than the fabric before the doll is made ... very exciting! I will post some pics once I return next week. My husband is holding down the fort and looking after the fur babies and our human baby (not that a 16 year old is a baby). I am expecting to come home to a beautiful clean house and cooked meal - I will probably get the cooked meal though not any cleaning faires - lol!.

Quilts for Victoria

I thought I would show you a few of the quilts I have quilted for the fire affected people of Victoria....and a couple of lazy cats. The girls from Unique Stitches in Launceston are doing a wonderful job of putting some quilts together. I will be doing more next weekend...

What a week Australia has had

The last weeks have been horrendous for a lot of families all over Australia. It is heart-warming to know that so many quilters are busy making quilts to send to the flood and fire affected areas. JanMac (of the Scquilters group) is assisting the co-ordinated delivery of quilts to Victoria so they can be given when the community feel it is the best time. A lot of groups in Tasmania are also busy making quilts. Unique Stitches (from Launceston) have made 15 already and are busy making more .... I have been able to get some half priced batting from MiniJumbuk in South Australia and I will be busy quilting these quilts over the next few weeks in between customer quilts and then they will need to be bound. If anyone is interested in donating already made binding cut at 2.5inch wide (doesn't matter what colour - as they can be matched up to a quilt) it would be very much appreciated. It is wonderful to see Australia pulling together at such a time.

A week of Stuff & Furbabies

It has been another busy week ... getting my quilts ready to go to Sydney for a photo shoot as I have been invited to have a profile in an Australian Magazine - Down Under Quilts - very exciting news. I also made another journal cover so I could send off to them as the original one I made was given to my son's school teacher as a thankyou for all she had done for him in the past few years.

Our furbabies are growing everyday and are still full of naughtiness and mischief. The big cat is still not happy about it all ... but they are at least passing each other - although a few hisses occur, there has been no swiping or biting - whew! Some photos above of my furbabies. When it was so hot here I put a fan up with a wet towel in front - they found it so much fun to play on the clothes stand - so I just had to put a few danglies on the clothes stand for them to play with. Probably not too good when I want to actually hang clothes on it!

On the weekend my husband and I went up to Ulverstone to the quilt show put on by Lynn M. at Cranberry Crafts - it was fantastic with a heap of quilts - wonderful show. I also had a display of my fabric sculptured dolls (picture above - what do you all think of them - they are all different and have different characters) I will be teaching a class at Cranberry Crafts on the 28 March this year. While I was at the show I met up with Lyn R who made several blocks in the quilt shown here - it was a raffle quilt for the Cancer Council in Launceston in 2008 - The Cranberry Craft Hope Club made the quilt, I quilted it for free and it was bound by the group and then raffled by the Cancer Council - it was wonderful to hear that Lyn had won the quilt because she had put so much work into it.....I would have loved it myself as it is a beautiful quilt - well done Lyn and I hope you don't mind your mug shot on my blog - you and the quilt look great! We also went and saw an exhibition at the Information Centre in Ulverstone - by the group Ozquiltnetwork - great art quilts and well worth seeing them .... here is a link http://www.ozquiltnetwork.org.au/

We have also had a couple of lovely visitors this week from New South Wales - Hi Jo & Tim...it was wonderful to see them and be able to spoil them - I don't often get to spoil people (other than my beautiful husband and son) so it was lovely to have them stay the few days.

So off to a busy week next week ... paperwork, quilting and finishing off some ATC(Artist trading cards) for a swap based on playing cards - the Ace of Spades is my choice! I will show some pictures when I have finished them. Then I have to get a few Dear Jane blocks finished off.

Beautiful Quilt for Charity

Check out this beautiful oriental quilt. A group of ladies on the North West of Tasmania have put it together and are donating it for charity fundraising. They have done the most beautiful work and I love the little applique blocks - especially the Koi.




It was a pleasure to quilt.
