Quilts, Beautiful Quilts

I couldn't resist - this quilt is beautiful ...  I know I know I say that every time - but really ... this one is ... I love the vibrancy of the Kaffe Fasset fabrics combined with the different blacks.   The quilt pattern is simple and I used an E2E called "Cascade" - beautiful!  This quilt is not mine though ... it was made by one of my customers and I have quilted it for her ... I wouldn't mind if she decided to not pick it up - lol!

This is the lovely backing fabric - from the lovely Brenda at Widebacks in SA - you should have a look at what delights she has to offer! (No affils or brown paper bags either - just very happy with her service)

Don't you just love how the quilting pattern looks on the back of this quilt.

This is a quilt that I started making at our annual retreat last year - so August I think - I can never remember dates very well.

It has languished in my quilting room since then ... just waiting to put the main part of the blocks together and the sashings ....

so.....

Yesterday I sewed ... I am quite happy with the outcome.  I used the Moda Fabulous Fall range of fabrics for this quilt - very autumn and I just really like it.

Just need to finish the borders and put them on.

On Sunday last, I tried my hand at making some redwork hearts ... they have gone to a friend in need of some hugs now ... but I thought I would show you all ... I think I have gotten the embroidery bug.

And last but not least, I have finished a few more of Helen Stubbings "Life is Beautiful" stitcheries ... only three to go before I can start to put the quilt together.

Well, today I am once again dealing with tradesmen trying to get my shower back together ... a quilt on the machine and deadlines to meet.

So Happy Quilting until next time... Jane x

THE WINNERS ARE

The winners of my 200th Post Giveaway are Number 12 and Number 5 on my list of 41 people ... I used a Random Number Generator to get my numbers.  I typed a list of people (not including double up postings) and included those that sent me some emails to my email rather than on my blog .... so  these people are :

No 12 - GERALDINE - from North West Tasmania - hello Geraldine
No 5 - BEC CLARKE  - from New South Wales

I will send you girls an email ... so you can send me your snail mail addy.

This has been fun ... I will have to do another giveaway soon.  Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my blog, and to those that are following ... I love to read your comments as it makes me think differently about my quilting - as a long arm quilter you don't really get too much company and discussion about your quilting styles - apart from the very happy customers of course.

So Happy Australia Day and Happy Quilting until next time. ... Jane x

Quilts, Another Journal to Give Away & My Babies

I have been busy quilting lately and enjoying the process a lot ... as usual!

Don't you love this quilt ... this is the second one I have quilted for a customer ... and both wanted exactly the same as what the designer had quilted.  I would have really liked to jazz it up a bit with my style of quilting ... but it still looks great this way.

A closer look

Hanging upside down on my quilting machine . lol!

This is a cute little quilt ... I have put some different sashing quilting on it and am very happy with the overall look.

A closer look.

And some E2E quilting ... simple style quilt, but the edge to edge pattern really gave it a lift.   Customer very happy with her choice of pattern and thread colour here.  She found it difficult to choose a patter that would do justice to her quilt and that she would be happy to live with  ... this Briar Rose pattern is beautiful though.

Close up of a block.     On the back of this quilt, I think I spent close to an hour and half trimming off all the loose black, navy and purple threads so they didn't get over into the yellow sashing.  They would show up terribly ... so look after your long arm quilter and trim those threads off the backs as well as the front ... please....lucky for my customer I don't charge for those "little" things!

And now to my babies ... Don't look at me, I've a bucket on my head.  Jet, has hurt his eye and needed to have surgery to have his third eyelid stitched over his eye so it can heal without him scratching it ... it looks particularly grusome and reminds me of the movie "Coralin".   He is coping well, he can eat and drink and toilet but can't scratch himself ... so I give him a good scratch every hour or so and a big brush down every evening which he loves.  Poor baby.

It is so difficult carrying that thing around all day.

Merlin doesn't know what to think, so he is sleeping on top of my outside fridge.

Getting heavy ... but he is comfortable and happy curled up ... every so often looking at me quilting as I walk around my quilt machine.

Over the past week, my family have been refamiliarised with our bath tub ... you see our shower is in the process of being re-tiled after we had a water leak (thank goodness we have insurance) ... So no shower's for the best part of a week ... I am so looking forward to it being finished.  I made the most of it, by getting a new shower screen - the old one was put in in the 1980's - you know - brown!

Anyway, the tiler is here today grouting the shower ... it is looking good.

Oh and before I forget ... I have had such a lovely response to my Giveaway that I made another little journal cover out of the same fabric but put different quilting on it ... I will now draw two names on Tuesday.... So watch out for that.

Isn't it cute ... I really will have to make myself one of these ... I really love the colours.

Happy Quilting for now ... Jane x

Jacobean Applique

Isn't this a beautiful quilt ... I absolutely love the georgeous applique ... very very fine stitching and a beautiful array of colours used. I have quilted this quilt with my own freehand fancy background filler and freehand feathers in the borders.  My customer was very happy with the finished product.  I would have been happy to keep this quilt ... it is very lovely and very fine workmanship.

You all know my longarm machine is NOT computerised don't you!  So everything custom I do is freehand and ruler work.

But I digress ... isn't this quilt lovely.  To make a Jacobean applique quilt is on my to do list!

A close up of one of the blocks

And another

And this little beauty is a Hug Quilt for a friend who is a longarm machine quilter ... quite a few of us made blocks, I put it all together and quilted it.  I know Pat was very very surprised to receive it - but she deserves it.   Hugs to you Pat!

So that's all for now,  back to the quilting machine for me .... Jane x

Projects in Progress

Did I show you this?   Not sure .... this is a quilt I did with a little quilt group - a mystery quilt I am really happy how it turned out.  I finished it off late last year but have yet to quilt it ... I'm thinking Custom Quilting for this one.  I just love the Batik fabrics that I used here.

And this lovely was one that I put together at a retreat last year ... also waiting to quilt this - hopefully before the next retreat.
I made this out of a Bali Pop pack and found some lovely Batik border fabric from The Quilt Patch in Launceston ...nice!

I have pieced the backing for this quilt as well.

A few more beautiful Jacob's Ladder blocks ... they do take awhile to applique all the bits down, but I am enjoying it quite a lot.

I laid out a few blocks for my embroidered quilt (Life is Beautiful - By Helen Stubbings).

I don't think I will be doing the sashings as I really like the look of it without them.

I only have eight more embroidery blocks to go and then I can lay it out and sew it all together ... I am really liking this quilt.

I wonder what I will do when I am finished this ... back to my Dear Jane Quilt perhaps?

Anyways.... Happy Quilting for Now .... Jane x

Oh .... I almost forgot .... it is nearly my 200th posting so I will be having a give away on my blog ... so stick around for that.

Tuesday 12 January 2010

These quilts were made by a lovely quilter who passed away late last year ... her friend is having them quilted and is binding them so the lady's family can use them.   They are lovely  ..  she used to do some wonderful machine embroidery too!

And just to keep it a bit about the kitties .... here is Merlin begging for the fan to be put on .... plllleeease

It has been pretty warm here in Tasmania this past week ... but a change is about with dark clouds and a bit of coolness coming after a very hot and humid day.

Happy Quilting for now .... Jane x

Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a very
Happy New Year ....

Did everyone know it was a Blue Moon last night - that is a second full moon in the same month - a great way to finish off the year.

While I am not making any New Year Resolutions this year, I do hope it is a prosperous and wonderful year for everyone.

Happy Quilting for now .... Jane x
