"Celestial Moons"

I have recently done a one day "Divide & Conquer" workshop with Sue Dennis (http://www.suedennis.com.au/) with the Tasmanian Quilt Guild in Launceston. This is where I got to on the day.





Then I finished the little piece which is 17.5 x 19.5 inches.
Quilted on my longarm and then added crystals with my Bejewler. You can't really get the full effect here ... the quilt background fabric is quite dark - blue batik and I have used circles of batik fused on and then stitched around them.

And this is nothing to do with "Celestial Moons"....but shows how my new pyramid quilt got used over the weekend ....Our son thinks our bed is warmer in the caravan than his tent - and I agree because it was a wet and windy night at the beach over the weekend.

Island Quilts 2008 - Hobart - Winning Quilts

Hi everyone - well I just returned from the Hobart Island Quilt Show where I was awarded a Highly Commended for my Miniature quilt - 8 x 10 inches and quilted on the longarm! that was a bit of fun and the first miniature I have made. I must slow down and not rush!!

One of my early clients also was awarded a Second place for a quilt that I quilted in my early months of quilting - so I get a certificate for that too! So....three competitions entered and three prizes - I am pretty happy

"Coloured Geese" 8x10inch miniature - Highly Commended
I made this little quilt on a Friday night - with scraps from a batik quilt I had made that week. I get notions in my head that I can make a quilt in a day - and you just about can with a miniature quilt - they are very lovely - but I guess you really can't sleep under them.










"2506 Evelyn's" - 2nd Place - Traditional Two Person Category


This was pieced by Jacklynne M. It was a lovely quilt - but hell to quilt on the long arm with all those seams - the pattern is one by Evelyn Sloppy called "Entwined"70x70 and is made by strip piecing the blocks and then sewing the segments in set orders - clever really. I used a pantograph pattern by Lorien Quilting called Nouveau Scallops.

Minature Quilts - My First

This is my very first miniature quilt - flying geese and saw tooth border. Size is 8x10inch - I even quilted it on my long arm APQS Millennium - stippled and stitch in the ditch. I am pretty happy with this - but next time will have to be a bit more conscious of the geese corners, because I have cut some of them off....but this is the first time I have made geese! Love them!

I am definately going to have to make more miniature quilts - they don't take a long time and cost very little - but they allow you to try designs and colour combinations that you might not want to in a bigger quilt. This one is left over batik scraps from my big quilt that I made with batik fat quarters. I even have enough to make more - who would have thought 1 inch square scraps would come in handy.
